    Mindsets

In a fixed mindset, people believe their basic qualities, like their intelligence or talent, are simply fixed traits. They spend their time documenting their intelligence or talent instead of developing them. They also believe that talent alone creates success—without effort. They’re wrong.

In a growth mindset, people believe that their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work—brains and talent are just the starting point. This view creates a love of learning and a resilience that is essential for great accomplishment. Virtually all great people have had these qualities.

Excerpt from the Bush Foundation Grant proposal:

Customized Learning emphasizes a competency-based approach. That is, learners progress to more challenging concepts and learning targets based on their demonstration of competency or mastery. Furthermore, Customized Learning is learner-centered as reflected by four essential characteristics.

    • First, learning opportunities should meet the learner at their readiness level.
    • Secondly, Customized Learning experiences should accommodate their learning style.
    • Thirdly, the opportunities should engage the learner with content of their interest.
    • And finally, learning experiences should be designed to be intrinsically rewarding for learners.

The combination of a learner-centered focus with a competency-based approach sets the stage for a new, long-overdue, and compelling education paradigm for our schools.

    ...

Customized Learning offers an active, learner-focused, and technology-infused collaborative learning venue—an appealing and relevant environment for today’s learners and tomorrow’s citizens.
