  • Activity 1 - Review pages 7-8 regarding the five-part working definition of competency education which describes the elements that need to be put into place to re-engineer the education system to reliably produce student learning.  Pick one of the five elements and discuss in one paragraph why this will be the most difficult to implement in your school/district.  Pick one of the five elements and discuss in one paragraph why this will be the easiest to implement in your school/district. Email your discussions to your class instructor with the subject Leader Virtuoso, Unit 4 Activity 1.  Be sure to include your name.

  • Activity 2 - Review pages 24 - 27, Creating the Shared Purpose.  Name your school/district vision, and reflect how it might change if your school/district were to implement competency-based education.  Email your reflections to your class instructor with the subject Leader Virtuoso, Unit 4 Activity 2.  Be sure to include your name.

Assignments

  1. Starting on page 11, Ramping Up for Transformation, they discuss 3 aspects of leadership: (1) Investing in shared leadership; (2) A shared journey of inquiry; and (3) Creating shared vision and shared ownership.  Discuss in no more than one page where you are in your school/district in each of these leadership aspects.  Email your discussion to your class instructor with the subject Leader Virtuoso, Unit 4 Assignment 1.  Be sure to include your name. 
  2. Starting on page 20, when engaging your community it is recommended to start with questions, not solutions. What does our community and parents want for their children upon graduation?  Thinking about your community and parents, make a plan of how you will get input for this question from both groups.  Email your plan to your class instructor with the subject Leader Virtuoso, Unit 4 Assignment 2.  Be sure to include your name.
